meth use: The Dangers of Crystal Meth Addiction
Crystal meth is a highly addictive drug that destroys lives and also affects millions of people. There are many dangers of crystal meth addiction, and it is important to remember that addiction does not always take the form of everyday, intense use. Some meth addicts are binge users, going days without using the drug. But no matter how often the drug is used, it is always dangerous, and no one is immune to its effects. Here are a few of the most significant dangers of crystal meth addiction.
· Increasing tolerance: Many meth users start out believing that they can handle the habit. Perhaps they just want to use it as an occasional stimulant when they are tired or need to focus. However, because meth users quickly develop tolerance to the drug, many find they need more and more of it to achieve the same effects. And when use increases, crystal meth addiction almost always follows. In other words, “casual” meth use is almost always unsustainable.
· Behavior problems: During the initial high, users often feel that they are invincible and can do anything. This often leads to destructive, dangerous behaviors. And during the “tweaking” phase, which follows the comedown, users often become miserable and painfully agitated, which can lead to a whole different type of destructive behavior. They can become a danger to not only themselves, but those around them.
· Permanent physical damage: People with crystal meth addiction who seek treatment can often overcome the physical side effects that plague meth users. But unfortunately, these effects are often permanent. For example, tooth decay is irreversible without expensive dental care, and the digestive and cardiovascular problems resulting from meth use often continue even after the user quits.
· Damaged relationships: Meth users often become so immersed in their addiction that they push everything else aside. One of the results of this is that meth users often allow relationships to languish and may even behave offensively toward people they love. Entering rehab can do a great deal to fix these relationships, but it often requires work.
· Impurity: Pure crystal meth is very rare on the street. Most of the time, people who use meth are also taking in additional chemicals that one certainly does not want in the body. Even one-time use of crystal meth can be life-threatening because of this, but people with crystal meth addiction endanger themselves all the more by regularly taking bad things into their bodies.
