Addictions may take months, even years to develop. It is not uncommon for a 40 year old, who has responsibly indulged in alcohol for 15 years, to develop an addiction. The path to addiction is different for each individual, and each individual will have a different path to recovery.

Naturally, anyone in drug treatment, alcohol drug treatment, or any addiction treatment wants to know how long the recovery process takes. It seems as if their life is on hold until the addiction treatment is complete, and that may be true. Some individuals are waiting to go back to work or back to their families. Others simply want more freedom that is typically allowed in treatment facilities, no matter how luxurious they may be.

While some people are limited in the amount of time they are permitted to spend in drug treatment by their insurance company or personal finances, there are others who have the ability to spend as much time as they need in treatment. Even those individuals want to know how long it will be until they start feeling better.

There is no pat answer for how long alcohol drug treatment will take. As frustrating as this is to both addicts and their loved ones, every person has different reasons for their addiction, and they will require different addiction treatment for varying lengths of time.

Most experts recommend at least three months of drug treatment, preferably inpatient, for most addicts. The longer the treatment, the better chance of lasting results. The only time frame that is certain is that it will take longer than a few days to recover from alcohol or drug addiction.

Any addict should be wary of an addiction treatment program that promises quick results. No one can guarantee quick results without knowing anything bout a person, ad why they became addicted to drugs or alcohol in the first place. Any family member should also be suspicious of a loved one who claims recovery from an addiction in a week or two. Addiction treatment is a long term process and involves hard work. No wonder so many people are anxious to know exactly how the long the process will take.

 

 

Drug Treatment Works, Illinois Advocates Say – (Springfield, IL) –The estimated number of Illinois residents waiting for alcohol and drug abuse assessment and treatment at state-financed facilities in 2008 rose 17 percent in, according to a report released at a press conference in Springfield, IL on May 1, 2008.
