Question by Devil Dog: OK, so like, ya know? Plz help!!! Thx!!!?
Why are there so many inane and duplicate questions on this website?
I know that most internet users are adolescent males (the age is evident from the text message style and/or grotesquely poor grammar and spelling; the male part is based on statistics – – apparently, most females have better things to do with their time!), who access the internet from their school’s computers (against school rules, I might add), but what do they hope to accomplish by asking vague questions (“Need help FAST!” or “Homework, plz?”) or duplicate questions (“Got zits! Got cure?”) or obviously phony questions (“I’m pregnant! Now what?”), and so on.
And why do such questions seem to get the most responses, while intelligent questions (which, from what I’ve seen, account for barely 5 percent of the questions asked) get virtually none? Where are the moderators? Why aren’t such questions eliminated without having to go through the “report abuse” process?

There are so many duplicate questions because people don’t know, or don’t want to, use the search function for their question before posting it. It’s easier just to post it than look for previous questions and answers. They don’t care about the points, so it doesn’t bother them to lose the 5 points for a question.
About most internet users being adolescent males, I don’t know. I’ve seen plenty of girls on here with awful spelling and grammar. I do agree with the teenage part though.
I think part of the reason for vague questions is that teens have trouble getting specific questions down. Their brains are still forming. In their minds, they need help, so that’s what they type. They don’t think to ask the specific question. They are typing the way that they speak in everyday life, have you had a conversation with a teenager lately? I have a 16 year old stepdaughter, and she talks exactly the way some of the teens write on here. I have to tell her to focus and get specific and really help guide her conversation.
The obviously phony questions are looking for attention or to get a rise out of people. I see so many kids that are, by my standards admittedly, neglected. The parents are too “busy” or too indifferent to give them attention, so they come on here to get it. Better bad attention than no attention at all. Plus you’re anonymous here, so you can get away with more.
Easy, silly questions get the most responses because they are the easiest to answer. You can put almost anything. Intelligent questions require intelligent, thought out answers. A lot of people are unwilling or unable to do that. They just want easy! They want to relax or have fun, not do something that takes thought and effort.
Yahoo! relies on community moderation. They simply don’t have the staff to look at each and every question, especially since the recent layoffs. I’ve learned just to ignore the silly questions, unless they are playing avatar games or deliberate point gaming or something abusive. Different categories have different qualities of questions and answers. The trick is to find one where you don’t get frustrated by the questions, and enjoy asking and answering.

‘Hishammuddin, explain abuse of police powers’ – Serdang lawmaker Teo Nie Ching, one of 11 people arrested but denied access to their lawyers last night, has demanded that Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein should explain the abuse of power by the police. She directed the same question to Brickfields OCPD Wan Ahmad Bahari Wan Ahmad Khalid as his officers had invoked section 28A(8) of the Criminal Procedure Code. This allows the police to stop those arrested from contacting a lawyer. www.malaysiakini.com
