Addiction Detox: does weaning off a bad codeine addiction make withdrawal less intense?
Question by SilverDaze: does weaning off a bad codeine addiction make withdrawal less intense?
my brother has recently confessed to a very bad addiction. around 200 tylenol 1’s a week for nearly 10 years. he has since started taking way way less this past week and is finding it a little uncomfortable but manageable. he is now taking only 4 pills 4 times per day and next month down to 3×4 then 2×4 then 1×4 each month. that’s the plan or how ever it will be to ease to that point. so its a slow process. by doing this, will it make the withdrawal any less intense once his body no longer has it in his system? we cant afford him the rehab even though its only $ 1800 for the week at a winnipeg detox center, (we live in winnipeg canada) its still too much for us right now so im looking for any helpful answers. i don’t want him to get discouraged and he is 100% ready mentally to kick this. will weaning off these pills slowly make any difference at all on the withdrawals. reliable info with links are best but any personal story will be helpful. someone from wpg would be even better to hook up with for advice.i just fear that he wont ever stop if this doesn’t work. the stories we have read of opiate withdrawal are just horrific with pain and suffering for weeks with little relief.

yea it does…i completely stopped a 3 month heroin addiction with out nothing, cold turkey, and it was the worst experience of my life! it sucks!he can go to a methadone clinic or sumthin…but stoppin with out meds SUCKS!he wont die but he will go thru hell…he should only take codeine wen he is withdrawing…and every time he gets sick he should take sum..and eventually take half and just go from there…but methadone or suboxone is better…ask or google methadone clinics in ur area!
