Young People Tackle Kilburns Drug Culture
(PRWEB) August 28, 2005
Over 300 young people will take to the streets of Kilburn at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday 3 September to raise awareness of the dangers of drug use. A peaceful march from Mornington Crescent tube station until Kilburn High Road by 14-25 year olds from UCKGÂs Victory Youth Group (VYG) will be followed by a stage production portraying real life events of a young drug abuser who successfully regained control of his life.
“While bombs, and police with guns grab the headlines, the old problems like substance abuse remain and must be dealt with,” said Pastor Celso Junior, head of the UCKG HelpCentre in Kilburn. “These young people, many of whom have been exposed to drug culture, wanted to share their experiences and let others know thereÂs more to life than drugs.”
Kilburn has suffered from an active drug market, drug-related crime, and anti-social behaviour for years. “Many young people in the area use class B and C drugs due to boredom or poor prospects and are at risk of progressing to class A use if they are not alerted to the dangers,” he added.
“If we can get people thinking about drug abuse and either stop them getting involved or give them a way out, Kilburn will become a safer and better place. We believe our event will help in raising awareness of the issues and contribute towards a solution for these problems,” Pastor Junior concluded.
The anti-drug youth marchers will carry banners and offer free information packs for young people and their parents. The drama production will then take place at the Kilburn UCKG, 234 Kilburn High Road, NW6. Everyone is invited to attend.
