Why does it seem doctor’s and hospitals are against Natural childbirth?

Question by lemonhead: Why does it seem doctor’s and hospitals are against Natural childbirth?
I am just curious why it seems that *most* doctors and hospitals are not supportive of women who want natural childbirth…as in drug and intervention free (no epidural, no ivs, no being strapped down). It seems like everyone I’ve talked to in the medical profession just roll their eyes when I talk about wanting to do natural and med free childbirth. Why is this?

Doctors are taught to help people and keep them from unnecessary pain. With safer anesthetics that are available, the pain of childbirth is no longer something a mother is forced to deal with, and it may seem kind of odd or frustrating that someone would choose hours of pain that could have easily been avoided.
