The toll alcohol takes on the body over time is just a matter of slow suicide as vital organs become unable to function. Recidivism after rehab is not uncommon but those who can actively embrace a 12 step program seem to do well. Although alcohol is often thought of as a socializing beverage, for recovering alcoholics, their best bet is a program that brings them together with others like themselves over a cup of coffee.
