If you’re applying for insurance with BCBS Illinois, can you be denied?

Question by daniel k: If you’re applying for insurance with BCBS Illinois, can you be denied?
I’m planning on applying for one of Blue Cross Blue Shield’s better plans individually because I have no other option. I have not had to go to the doctor in over 3 years, but prior to that I had a horrible addiction problem and was in and out of the emergency room, detox, i saw doctors every other week, and had lots of prescriptions filled.

If so, what about on a group plan? Can you be denied from a group plan?

Additional Info: I live in Illinois

Yes, you could possibly be denied. It will depend upon the underwriters. You can also possibly have a higher premium or, if they’ll accept you, would not cover certain conditions. You should visit a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can pre-screen with all of the companies to find out if any will accept you and at what terms. There is no extra charge using an agent.

You cannot be denied on a group plan. You’ll just need to get a job with an employer that offers insurance.
