Borderline Personality and Withdrawal?
Question by Myrra B: Borderline Personality and Withdrawal?
I just asked a similar question yesterday, but here I go again…
My friend, who has a history of heroin use, seems to be going through withdrawal. In the past, even when on drugs, he has been sweet and kind to me – even if he raged and cursed about everyone else.
I knew before that he doesn’t handle his emotions well because of his traumatic childhood, and he’s said more than once that the drugs helped keep his head quiet… I asked his aunt yesterday (kinda feel bad for snooping but I love him) and she said that he was DIAGNOSED years ago with Borderline Personality Disorder. That I did NOT know.
If he’s going through withdrawal and has BPD, what can I expect? He is starting to snap at me, which has never happened before, and I don’t know if it’s all withdrawal or part disorder. Is the disorder affecting his personality or is it his personality?
I care for him and want a way to be there without being too “in his face” about it.

You’re in for a rough time. BPD is no picnic. Deep instability in mood, ‘all or nothing, black or white” thinking, “splitting”, unstable self-image, identity and behavior. Possibility of dissociation.
Difficulty maintaining relationships in work, home and social settings. Attempted and completed suicide are possible, especially without proper care and effective therapy.
Your friend needs help. I understand you love him but he may be unable to return your love at this time. BPD alone is very difficult, let alone withdrawal from heroin.
