DAYTON — The number of deaths from unintentional drug poisonings have soared over the past decade in Ohio, from 327 in 1999 to at least 1,373 in 2009.In 2007, unintentional drug overdose became the state’s leading cause of injury death, surpassing motor vehicle crashes and suicide for the first time. The increase in deaths has been driven primarily by prescription drug overdoses.
