CHAMP Harm Reduction Picnic (Spring 2000)

Californians Helping Alleviate Medical Problems (CHAMP) was a member-staffed non-profit community center dedicated to people with life and/or sense threatening medical conditions, whose cannabis use was acknowledged by a licensed physician. When cannabis alleviates symptoms and improves the quality of life, we believed medical necessity dictated that CHAMP should provide safe access to mold-free and pesticide-free cannabis. Our mission was to provide Service, Hope, and Compassion in cooperation with the medical community. CHAMP was committed to the philosophies of harm reduction, wellness, and community. In that spirit, we provided a safe peaceful and supportive environment where members could obtain and use their cannabis without the potential risk of legal harm. We offered our membership free support groups, free education groups, free informational meetings and free socially interactive activities that had a focus on health, emotional support, compassion, respect, social healing, harm reduction, and medical relief. This video is meant to raise public awareness as to the mission of Harm Reduction programs, Medical Cannabis, and their positive impact on the community. This is true grass roots history of the Medical Marijuana movement in San Francisco and California. Video by Kenneth Andersen CHAMP Member (1999 – 2002)
