‘The Secret’ Helps Addicts to Manifest Recovery Through a Unique Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation and Addiction Treatment Program

Miami, FL (PRWEB) June 8, 2007

Relapse prevention has always been an important component of any treatment program for recovering addicts. According to most programs, helping addicts to prevent relapse is crucial to their recovery. However, given all of the current efforts to teach addicts about how to prevent relapse, approximately 70 to 90 % still relapse within one year after completing a traditional program. It is apparent that additional resources are still needed to reduce the extremely high rate of relapse for those seeking recovery.

G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment Program has recently added “The Secret” to its comprehensive, holistic approach to the treatment of addicts. While G & G Holistic recognizes the importance of certain components in a traditional approach to the treatment of addiction, it is their belief that attention needs to be given to the underlying cause of the dependency, the client’s dysfunctional thinking process. G & G Holistic believes that if an addict does not change their thinking while in recovery that life will remain the same including the perceived need for the use of drugs and alcohol. If a recovering addict does not alter their thinking relapse is almost a certainty.

The implementation of the technology from “The Secret” is being coordinated by Dr. Harry Henshaw, a licensed psychotherapist. According to Dr. Henshaw, the disease of addiction, the “something within us,” has to do primarily with a person’s fundamental thinking process. At the very core of the disease is a basic belief that an individual has about himself. Dr. Henshaw believes further that this basic idea that we have is what determines our self-image, our self-esteem and as result creates the point from which we manifest our life experiences. For an addict this basic belief is negative in nature and as a result creates a barrier or constraint to living their life from a point of well-being. It is from this negative view of self that the addict brings drugs and alcohol into their life.

What “The Secret” does for an addict is begin a conversation about the power of their thinking and as a result, their responsibility for how their life has been thus far. According to this powerful movie that all of the clients admitted to the G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment Program experience, most addicts are focused on what they do not want in life. In their attempt to stay in recovery, many addicts stay focused on only avoiding drugs and alcohol. However, such a methodology will only manifest or source more of what is being avoided or resisted. The work for the addict is to recognize what they do not want in order to develop a clear contrast. However, the work that has been missing is to eventually shift their effects into creating what they do want, what is truly in alignment with their well-being.

In addition to introducing an addict to the power of their thinking, “The Secret” also gives practical suggestions about how to begin to shift their thought process from being primarily negative to one that is truly positive. The first suggestion that is given is the creation of a gratitude list. By focusing on what a person is grateful for the addict will begin to create or source more of the same into his life. Each client is given instruction in how to create their own gratitude list and to practice it daily. The second suggestion that clients work with has to do with visualization, a very powerful hypnotic process. In the visualization process clients are directed to begin to create in their imagination what they truly want in life. Once such an image is created the client is taught how to practice such an exercise daily. Furthermore, the client is also taught through this counseling how to materialize or bring forth such visualization into their daily life.
