Navigating Barriers (Khmer)

Chea Yan is a Cambodian refugee who arrived to the US in 1986. Mr. Yan suffers from many health problems, diabetes being one of them. If he does not take his medication, his blood gets clogged and he gets rashes. Mr. Yan was ineligible to receive medi-cal because he did not renew his form. This affected his health condition greatly because he was not able to receive the necessary medications. Mr. Yan does not read, write or speak English and although he speaks Khmer, he does not read or write it. Fortunately, Khmer speaking staff members at Asian Health Services (AHS) were able to help him fill out and turn in his medi-cal application for renewal. In addition, the staff members also help him fill out other medical and non-medical documents.
