Why do you think people like the failed drug war?
Question by Sara: Why do you think people like the failed drug war?
i think it’s because they are under the false impression that making drugs illegal makes people not do them. Two europeans visited my high school a while ago and told us (and to my question) they don’t get drunk with their friends, that’s not something that people do in europe, because they grew up with it being legal and it wasn’t a big deal.
Now my opinion on people voting for the drug war is not just unintelligent but is criminal, there are billions of dollars uselessly being spent on trying to tell people what they can do with their own bodies, that could be spent on rehabilitation or any number of things… anything!
and this is aside from the fact that a true democracy government should have no right to tell its people what they can and can’t put into their bodies. by this logic fast food, alcohol, and tobacco should be illegal.
TAT > it should be up to the individual as an adult what they want to put in their bodies, the government should have no say. the drug war has failed and has indirect consequences like prostitution. The drugs are so expensive because of inflation due to it being illegal, drug addicts have to prostitute their bodies to quench their drug habit.
Anti Censorship > yes drugs can be really bad, should the government tell us what we can do with our own bodies, no, and has our drug laws stopped people from doing drugs, no.
even if the drug war DID, which is DOESN’T, thwart people from doing drugs, i still would say the government shouldn’t tell us what to do.
Making fast food illegal would save MILLIONS of lives probably but we don’t make that illegal, because the majority of people like fast food. Thomas Jefferson said the majority should never be able to vote on minority’s rights, the constitution should be the speaker for that.
Because now we legislate taste, we say that alcohol ( a very dangerous drug ) is legal but marijuana ( a harmless drug ) is illegal.
TAT > here’s where your wrong, people are going to do those things anyway. your response about people doing drugs and then driving… alcohol is legal and people drink and drive (probably the worst drug you could do and drive on is legal)…
Now alcohol is legal for a number of reasons, criminals were getting rich, and it wasn’t stopping anyone.
Being drunk, on heroin, high, on crack, prescription pills, etc. would remain illegal and it should, but people are going to do those things whether we make the actual drug legal or not. and we are wasting billions on trying to stop people from doing them, it’s not working.
Please tell me your opinion on alcohol being legal with your argument being what it is.

Right on! Let meth flow free. Let cocaine fall like snow. Let heroine hail in the halls of government. You are absurd. Glad you can generalize on two Europeans.
Okay, I am going to assume that you are young and government educated and cut you some slack. What you do does effect other people. You driving around messed up puts me at danger. Every time you are hurt in an accident or are hospitalized due OD or other problems caused by your desire to be a deadbeat drug addict it costs me money. When you are allowed to freely pass around substances that do nothing but destroy people, it does effect me. In a true democracy that majority rules and it has currently ruled that they are not going to legalize you shooting up heroin.
