Back on the Chain Gang – Bass Line

My version of the bass line of Pretenders’ 1982 hit “Back on the Chain Gang”, performed with my Alembic Essence bass guitar and my new EBS 300 Gorm combo. ABOUT THE SONG “Back on the Chain Gang” was written by Chrissie Hynde in 1982. Originally released as a 7″ single on November 12, 1982, it was later included in their 1984 album named “Learning to Crawl”. Produced by Chris Thomas, it reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 17 in the UK Singles Chart. The “Picture of You” refers to a photograph of The Kinks’ guitarist Ray Davies, that Hynde reportedly found in her wallet. Although the song started off about Davies, with whom Hynde held a relationship by the time, the meaning of the song changed after James Honeyman-Scott -guitarist of Pretenders- died that same year. Pete Farndon, who was the bassist of the original lineup of Pretenders, started having problems with the band, caused by his drug dependence and was fired on June 14, 1982, two days before Honeyman-Scott was found dead. Farndon himself drowned in his bathtub after a heroin overdose on April 14, 1983. ABOUT THE BASSLINE The bass line of “Back on the Chain Gang” was performed by Tony Butler, the bassist who replaced Farndon after he was fired. This was the first Pretenders single featuring Butler. ________________________________________ Mi versión de la línea de bajo del tema de Pretenders “Back on the Chain Gang”, interpretado con mi bajo Alembic Essence y mi nuevo combo EBS 300 Gorm
