Autism Vitiligo GI issues and diet?
Question by memememe: Autism Vitiligo GI issues and diet?
Both of my boys are on the Autism spectrum and I’m also dealing with other health issues and wanted to ask if any other parents have a simillar pattern in the health of their AS children.
I’m a bit overwhelmed right now with my boys health issues and trying to connect the dots and wanted to ask if any of you parents have any of the same issues or concerns as I do. I’m trying to see if any of our past/current issues are related.
I will try to briefly go down the list with a bit of history…… 3 to 4 days after delivery, both of my boy developed Physiologic Jaundice and had a Bilirubin counts between 20-26mg. and we readmitted and treated with intense phototherapy. Simply put, Jaundice can be caused by too many red blood cells retiring, by the liver being overloaded or damaged, or by the inability to move processed bilirubin from the liver through the biliary tract to the gut.
Secondly, recently both of my boys have developed Vitiligo, the most widely accepted view is that the depigmentation occurs because vitiligo is an autoimmune disease-a disease in which a person’s immune system reacts against the body’s own organs or tissues. I’m not an expert yet on this subject and just starting to do some research on the subject. We have an appointment with a local derm. but we won’t see him until mid April.
Third is GI Issues, my boys are super poopers and have severe flatulence, again I wonder if this has to do with diet? They are both millkaholics and drink 6 gallons of milk a week combined. We took them off Cows milk last summer and I did notice a change in behavior and now we give them soy milk and they are soyaholics. They crave milk and can drink it like water. We hope to see a GI specialist next but do not have a set appointment at this time.
So I guess I’m wondering if anyone else has had any of these issues…Jaundice at birth, Vitiligo, GI issues, and addiction to milk.
