My fellow Americans, how does it feel to know that our great nation now has one more thing in common with Iran?

Question by 9121: My fellow Americans, how does it feel to know that our great nation now has one more thing in common with Iran?
US sex change surgeries are now tax-deductible:

In Iran, the government will pay for part of the sex-change surgery for transsexuals:

On a side note, from http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc502.html :
“If you itemize your deductions on Form 1040, Schedule A (PDF), you may be able to deduct expenses you paid that year for medical care (including dental) for yourself, your spouse, and your dependents. A deduction is allowed only for expenses primarily paid for the prevention or alleviation of a physical or mental defect or illness. Medical care expenses include payments for the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or treatment affecting any structure or function of the body. The cost of drugs is deductible only for drugs that require a prescription, except for insulin.”
@Erica – Counting Down The Days: Then can you explain to me why a lot of transsexuals get offended when they are told they have a disorder?
@Trinidad Grad: Like it or not, my viewpoints really are not that radical and do not depart from the views of the majority of persons across our nation. If you would take the time to read some of my other questions, then you would know that I am not “transphobic” as you would have it.
And how is the government of any country supposed to radically change the viewpoints and opinions of private citizens? The leadership of Iran is considerably more understanding of transsexuality than the general public.
You can stay on your high horse and arrogantly insist that you’re right all you want and claim that everyone who doesn’t agree with you is wrong. See how far that will get you. Post the same link to the same Website–which you have already sent me more than once (and sent to multiple others) and which I have in fact read.
“The first defense of the ignorant is to label all dissent as ignorance.”
Furthermore, Trinidad Grad / Leah / RadGal, I never claimed to be an expert on the topic. You are simply trying to put words in my mouth in an effort to question the validity of my views to discredit them further. Not going to work. You can say the grass is blue, but that doesn’t make it so.
Erica – Counting the Hours and Trinidad Grad’s answers are different, yet share some striking similarities and the exact same diction in some areas. REALLY makes me believe this may be the same person. After all, transsexuality is NOT as common of a thing as they would make it out to be.
You people demand that others accept you and try to understand your “condition,” yet when I, and many others, attempt to, we are attacked, belittled, and insulted, then if we don’t simply put up with it, we are accused of being transphobic. Case in point: a question I asked 8 months ago today. I had one minor misunderstanding that altered the dynamics of my question and I get attacked for it (although MOST of the answerers were cool about it and clarified in a somewhat civil manner. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akr8oLrGedVQtssKhFg3gaXty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090604151831AA0hNYF )
@CASINO_BABE: Using that same argument, everyone “knows” that transsexuality is not a legitimate medical condition. After all, that’s what the majority of people believe.
