Proponets of marijuana Prohibition, would you support…?
Question by 5 dollar footlong: Proponets of marijuana Prohibition, would you support…?
putting users into rehab instead of jail? Many people say “marijuana is bad for you. It ruins lives.” This insinuates that you care about people and you want to protect them from themselves.
Putting people who are caught with small amounts of pot in rehab would get them OFF of pot (if it is the life-ruining demon it is made out to be). Putting them in jail will ensure that they come back into the criminal justice system. Jail does nothing to solve addiction. It only adds more punishment if the addiction were not enough by itself. It takes away any scholarships they might have and will put a mark on their record that will keep them from getting a job. If they can’t get a job and are unable to help themselves, they are more likely to end up on welfare or resort to crime to make a living.
So what do you think? Rehab instead of jail? I know this already sometimes but should it happen more often, or all the time?
And don’t argue that it would cost too much money because if money were an issue you would be against the War on Drugs period. (I personally don’t think any taxpayer money should be spent on drug users – rehab, jail, or welfare, but that’s just me.)
What do you think?
@ruth: Read the parentheses in my 2nd paragraph. This is operating under the assumption that marijuana is addictive (which it can be, but only psychologically, not physically).
@Jadon P: Because it’s tasty.
@ruth: Either way they are still going to jail for mj. And if you really want people to stop doing it rehab is the answer.
@ruth: I am not attacking you and you are the one challenging me. I am just saying that if keeping pot illegal was about “protecting people” or helping people, then rehab would be the answer. But since most (like you) advocate jail instead (which will not solve the problem), then it makes me suspect it might be something else, like an unfounded prejudice maybe.
@ruth: Why are you getting offensive? I’m allowed to disagree with you. If you’re not mature enough to handle that then stay off the computer. I’m having a hard time believing you’re an adult.
Lol yeah go ahead and delete your answer.

I am Conservative in my politics, and I have long thought that pot should be legal.
