So, my boyfriends fifteen and he’s addicted to pills. He’s had problems with heroine and meth in the past, but has not done either of those in about five months. He’s a really great guy, but he’s just so addicted to opiates that he believes that he has to take a certain number of them every day just to feel like a fraction of himself. I’m not going to ask him to stop, because although I’d love it if he did, I love him the way he is, and I don’t believe addicts can truthfully quit unless they want to for themselves. I’m just wondering if there’s any way that I can help build his self-esteem to where he feels like he can get through some days without the opiates.

I’m a former pill-popper myself. I was severely depressed and was contemplating suicide until I met my girlfriend. It was all her doing that changed my life, she showed me that she was moral and that there was beauty in the world still. You need to help him realize something..anything. You said he was a meth/heroine user, those two drugs especially can cause permanent damage to his neurotransmitters (especially the “feel good” ones like dopamine and serotonin), he may never feel the same again BUT YOU MUST GET HIM OFF ALL DRUGS IMMEDIATELY IN ANYWAY POSSIBLE.
