I hope my advice helps- I have never taken Ketamine, but I have been on Percocet and tried other drugs like Morphine because chronic pain, so I know a little about trying to get off this kind of medicine and did some reading on Ketamine, too. I am by no means a qualified medical expert though, seek professional help too. For general info, a good place to look is the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketamine#Long-term_side_effects
From the brief scanning of information I’ve done, It sounds like a lot of the mental things you are feeling- memory loss, the feeling of stupidity- is common while taking it, could likely go away when you finally stop taking Ketamine. As with other serious drugs, getting off Ketamine is probably going to require very gradual tapering, so your body can slowly adjust to smaller and smaller amounts of the drug- ie: don’t go cold turkey! You will put yourself through more hell than is necessary. If you can get into rehab to deal with this, DO it! It will be great to have a place full of people that understand and are supporting your physical, mental, emotional, even spiritual needs through this time. Especially since your habit is 5 years, it could be pretty hard.
It sounds like Ketamine can have serious affects on the bladder, and it isn’t unusual you’re having painful urination or bleeding, but that could mean there has been damage to your bladder already, and it could be even more serious, affecting your kidneys- get a second opinion. I have no idea if that’s reversible, I got the feeling that a lot could improve when you stop, but that some people can still experience “cramping” after they are off of it. Hopefully the symptoms you are having are enough to motivate you to commit yourself to change.
You are likely to feel withdrawal symptoms which won’t be fun- from personal experience, the mental and emotional depression associated with withdrawal from the medication might be horrendous- you could experience severe anguish along with physical pain and discomfort, so don’t go through this alone- have someone with you that can comfort you and tell you you’re not alone and you’ll feel better when time passes. There ARE things the doctor can give you to help with withdrawal symptoms- I think clonodine is one of them. Please read as much of the Wiki article you can, there is a lot information and links to follow up info. to make yourself aware of what the drug has done to your body and how to get through it.
If you don’t feel your doctor is getting everything that’s going on, please see someone else. Tell them if they can’t help you to refer you to someone that can give you the medical support you need to get off this drug. Please don’t do this by yourself! You CAN stop this addiction, just go slow. Best wishes.
