Question by 115 answers: did matthew perry have severe depression regardless of his drug addiction?
The last eight years have been a struggle for Matthew – personally, as well as professionally. He’s been in and out of rehab for his drug and drink addictions. It began in 1997 when the star became addicted to the painkiller Vicodin. He admitted taking the drug to help problems with his wisdom tooth and then again, after he fell off a jet-ski. But rehab didn’t solve his problems. Matthew was suffering from severe depression, but was still going out and partying hard. He would down two pints of vodka and 30 painkillers a day as he sank further into despair. Then in 2000, he announced he’d finally beaten the addiction. Although he was back in hospital again with pancreatitis and liver damage from alcohol abuse. He said of his experiences – during which his weight yo- yoed dramatically – ‘In my case, it was hard-living and drinking, and eating poorly.’
