How much will I pay to get a mechanic to put a new “motor crank” in a 2000 Dodge Caravan?

Question by God’s Reporter (GOP): How much will I pay to get a mechanic to put a new “motor crank” in a 2000 Dodge Caravan?
Here’s the classified ad i’m answering, in which a person wants $ 600 for a 2000 Dodge Caravan:
“motor crank broke. van is perfect except 4 that. drivetrain is good. has towing package an reese hitch. cut off going down road an broke crank. just put ne waterpump and timing belt on and turned out 2 be fuelpump.” What is a motor crank and how much will it cost?

The crankshaft (aka motor crank) is kind of like the backbone of the whole motor.

I would be surprised if you could find someone to do that job for less than $ 2500. It requires pulling the motor and depending upon the severity of the damage a complete rebuild or possible a new motor may be in order.

On that particular car It is probably going to cost more to repair than what a running car would cost.
