Magnolia is a 1999 American drama film, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It tells the story of nine different yet very alike people. It interweaves each of their nine separate yet connected storylines, during the course of one day in the San Fernando Valley, in Los Angeles, California. CAST: Officer Jim Kurring (John C. Reilly): A divorced, religious, and forthright police officer. Frank TJ Mackey (Tom Cruise): Author of a self-help guide for men to get women to “sleep” with them. Linda Partridge (Julianne Moore): A woman dealing with her huge feelings of guilt for her infidelity. Donnie Smith (William H. Macy): A former kid genius who now has become “stupid”. Stanley Spector (Jeremy Blackman): A boy genius whos greedy father constantly undervalues him. Phil Parma (Philip Seymour Hoffman): A sympathetic and lonely nurse working for the Earl Partridge. Claudia Wilson Gator (Melora Walters): A young woman plagued by a huge cocaine addiction. Jimmy Gator (Philip Baker Hall): Host of a quiz show and who is dying of cancer. Earl Partridge (Jason Robards): A terminal ill man who is Frank’s estranged father.
