Used the wrong treatment on a bad scrape… what to do now?

Question by HP Resource: Used the wrong treatment on a bad scrape… what to do now?
I got a bad “raspberry” on my knee during a softball game at a company outing. I used the unfamiliar first aid kit to clean and dress the scrape. I used what I thought was an anti-bacterial no-stinging-pain wipe on my scrape. Except it stung SO BAD when I used it. I kept at it, knowing that I needed to clean it out properly. Then, eyes watering, I looked at the package again, and realized I was using “Bee/Wasp Sting Pain Relief” and it cautioned not to use on broken or raw skin. And that’s exactly what I’d done. The package gave no advice as to what to do now that I’d done that.

Now, it’s been about 18 hours and the center of my scrape is still raw – like, no scabbing has covered it up and it stings like nothing else. It feels like a fresh wound!

I don’t know if it’s just the scrape, or if it was because of using the stinging stuff on my knee, but it’s kept me awake all morning and it’s causing a constant, uncomfortable level 3 pain.

The ingredients are here:
Active Ingredients
Ethyl alcohol (50.0%)….Antiseptic
Lidocaine HCL (2.0%)….Topical Pain Relief

Inactive Ingredients
Benzalkonium chloride, menthol, purified water

Thanks everyone for your advice as to what I should do about this!

If you are in pain, the best thing to do is see a doctor and explain what happened. He or she may be able to prescribe something, or advise on the best course of action.
