legal help, s’il vous plait?

Question by suzanne r: legal help, s’il vous plait?
i moved into a house with some friends 3 months ago on a 6 month contract. i lost my job and had to move out, so i toured a girl around who was looking for a place for her brother to live. they signed a contract that i made. he moved in on september 1 and moved out a day later because of “illegal drug use” (hash). he hasn’t paid and likely won’t unless there is some sort of legal intervention. this puts me in a weird position because:
a) i don’t want my friends to get ratted out,
b) i can’t, nor do i want to, foot the bill myself,
c) i don’t want to be a jerk to him.
my question is: is he still bound to the contract if they were doing drugs? and could he get them into trouble? (according to canadian law)
thanks!

The contract terms would have to be reviewed. One important thing to consider is whether he knew of drug use before he signed the contract. Did you tell him? If you knew of drug use and did not tell him that is a material omission in my opinion. Consult a lawyer where you are for your answer.
