Is the reality show Intervention legal to show drug addicts buying and using illegal substances wtihout jail?
Question by simple: Is the reality show Intervention legal to show drug addicts buying and using illegal substances wtihout jail?
It tracks addicts to try to get them help. It shows them shooting up heroin, smoking crack and pot and sniffing cocaine. Why do’t they get cited and prosecuted for possession of illegal substances? Why don’t police investigate and go after their drugdealers? Am I missing something? I thought illegal drugs were illegal.
I don’t mean just the dealers, but the USERS themselves. I mean, if a cop came to my house and I’ve got a canister of coke and a few lines i’m sniffing up and am all high, is he gonna say your neighbor was complaining about the noise, keep it down, be careful not to OD and have a nice day then leave? I mean why is it legal just because it’s on television?
Rehab is only an option they offer during the last 5 minutes of the show and sometimes they will turn it down and rarely do they show they completed the program. They usually have a black screen in the end with white typing that reads something along the lines of “After 3 weeks in rehab Jack began using again and was kicked out of the program. He is currently using again and living on the streets of Cleveland.” Or the last episode I saw the guy was kicked out of rehab for making homemade wine.
so as long as someone agrees to go to rehab, it’s legal to do illegal drugs? In the show the user clearly states what they are shooting up and they show it on film so it’s not a “mystery” or vague at all.
I agree the episodes showing drunk drivers are the worst. It reminds me of the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians when Khloe got drunk at a club and then pulled over while drunk driving, all the while the cameras were rolling!! I was like wtf, how could anyone with a conscience continue filming her while she’s driving drunk! At least in that episode she went to jail but on Intervention they just get away with all this illegal behavior and I find that to be immoral of the producers.
to JYHoff when the druggie agrees to do the show they are given the false impression that it is only a documentary and are not informed of the rehab option and the intervension that it leads to, so their agreeing to rehab has nothing to do with them signing on to be on TV.
