A friend of mine, a fairly good one, has invited me to her daughter’s baby shower. The daughter is a heroin addict who constantly lies about her drug use, and the “help” she is getting for it. The daughter can’t take care of her cat, or herself. I see the baby being taken away by Child Protective services quickly. This girl is on a chemical heroin substitute, and has smoked frequently throughout her pregnancy. I don’t even really know her that well, but I want no part of this. It disgusts me. The father, she met in January in a shelter. They married two months later. He’s a former LA gang member. They fight a lot, the cops have been involved with ALL of them, and he’s even cheated on her. I don’t know why I was invited, as opposed to Jerry Springer. How can I get out of it without hurting my friend’s feelings? She’s somewhat resigned to the situation, but I don’t agree with her in acting if this is something good. It’s not. That kid is doomed.

Well, if you don’t want to go and don’t want to hurt your friends feelings, just say you got called into work or something came up and you can’t make it.
