What do you think about Lindsay Lohan’s “Substance abuse is a disease” statement?
Question by : What do you think about Lindsay Lohan’s “Substance abuse is a disease” statement?
She made it on her Twitter page, along with her confession for a positive cocaine drug test. She’s not the first person to call substance abuse a “disease”, I’ve heard at least one other celebrity say that; and it’s a load of horseshit. Any disease, whether it be mental or physical is a biological illness, which means they’re born with it. If Lindsay was born into a world without substances to abuse, does that mean her “disease” would never have surfaced? BS. Drug addiction is a self infliction, it’s deplorable when they try to turn it into an affliction.
Where’s the proof for this “genetic disposition for addiction”? It’s all speculation.
Some people are inclined to pursue different careers, should we start labeling that, too? “genetic predisposition to art/football/acting, etc” – People have a CHOICE in life, it’s called free will, they use it.

I agree with you all the way, I think? I’ve never really been addicted to anything to know how that is. I know that the first hit was by choice, but if you’ve seen those people in rehabs, they look so gross when they’re weaning off. I can almost see why they’d keep doing it, despite all the bad it causes them. I think if it’s a disease at all, it’s got to be a curable one. It’s weird how one person can do cocaine, and never touch the sutff again, while other’s become addicted before it’s even fully in their system.
