why do I receive spam e-mails that are using “yahoo” brand?

Question by Cristina G: why do I receive spam e-mails that are using “yahoo” brand?
The email was send by [email protected]. I paste a copy of the e-mail. I think this is illegal. I’ve received this kind of spam before but they had nothing to do with Yahoo.

This is to inform you that you have been selected for a cash prize of
500,000.00 (Five hundred thousand pounds sterling) which was held for
the YAHOO! UK 2008 BONANZA. The selection process was carried out through
random selection in our computerized E-MAIL SELECTION SYSTEM (ESS)
from a database of over 250,000 email addresses drawn from which you were
selected.

Why do you open spam? Just delete it. If you open it they know your account is active and you will get more spam. Yahoo does not send out spam.
